Games To Encourage Thinking Skills
by: Steve Hall
There is no doubt about it, using computer games is a great way to encourage children to expand their realm of thinking. Your options for entertaining your child may seem numbered. Many people allow their children to spend quite a bit of time in front of the television. But, what good does that do? If you want them to learn something while they are zoned out, you are completely lost. But, if you flip on the computer, download a great game, you may actually be able to encourage them to learn more and you will encourage good thinking skills as well.
Thinking is not something that everyone can do well. Now, we are referring here to the thought process that goes along with solving problems. For many children, this is something they struggle with. Mom or Dad always takes care of the problems. If something isn’t right, just call mom or dad. Even on the television, that is full of real life and imaginary “problems” that need to be solved, there is no encouragement for children to come up with the solution. What happens then? They just sit and watch and let someone else handle the problem.

Cell Phones for Kids - How Young is Too Young?
by: Barry Nagassar
Take a random tween, age 8-12, place them in front of a rotary phone and observe at the blank stare of bewilderment. Yes, gone are the days of the landline, pushed aside by the next wave of technological advancement. Mobile phones are fast displacing landlines in many homes; accompanying this movement is the fact kids regularly use and know how to use these cell phones. The mobility of cell phones means you can be anywhere and have the necessity, or should I say the convenience, of a phone.
Cellular service providers and manufacturers would enjoy nothing more than exploiting the vastly untapped tween market. However, is it necessary to provide cell phones to kids age 8-12? What makes it necessary today? Is the simple the notion of having the technology enough reason to equip younger and younger customers with phones? Where do we draw the line when it comes to tweens owning cell phones, and when should we be restricting use? The remainder of this article will discuss the pros and cons of purchasing cell phones for kids. It will discuss the social aspects, health concerns, and cost issues.
The Truth About Labor and Childbirth
January 26, 2008
Labor and childbirth was an amazing, positive experience for me, both times. I am very fortunate, I know. But I do believe that if you prepare yourself through education (reading books, reading websites like this one, taking prenatal classes, etc) and taking good care of yourself while you are pregnant, you will have a far greater chance of a pleasant birth experience.
There are many things you can do to increase your chances of an empowering childbirth experience. These are the things I did:

Health and Fitness in Pregnancy and Delivering a Healthy Baby
by: David Arnold Livingston
Pregnancy is when women are most beautiful, when there’s another life being nurtured inside the mother’s womb. This act of creating life, though, is not without its complications, and expectant soon-to-be mothers should do their best to keep their health in optimal condition, for their sake as well as the unborn child’s. Even the common cold can affect the pregancy. So what are the steps to take during pregnancy? Here are a few tips and suggestions.
The first step in pregnancy is to visit a doctor and have yourself examined for any possible complication, get your pap smear, blood test, the works; also make sure that you get as much information as possible to help make sure your pregnancy is being handled properly. Of course, it is best to take great care in choosing a physician, a midwife, a hostpital, and all the necessary staff in the pregnancy. Make sure that they are just as concerned for the baby as you are
How I Met My Angel

How I Met My Angel
by: Saleem Rana
Today I was in rather a whimsical mood, and so instead of my usual “how to” article, I thought I’d create a fairy tale for the child within you to enjoy.
When I was just a young soul, on my first incarnation to be a human being, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to go to Earth School.
I felt so happy here, in Paradise. I did what I liked and I never ran out of time. I played with my friends and we made art by mixing colors out of rainbows, and made music by waving our hands in certain ways in the wind, and made animals to love out of the flowers in the fields. Sometimes, too, we blew bubbles out of sunshine or created small fountains by collecting the dew from petals.
“I don’t really want to go to school, Mother God,” I said. Azna smiled and shook her head. Her dark tresses fell over her beautiful face. “All souls have to go to school so that they can become gods and run universes when they grow up.”
The Treasure of reading to Children

The Treasure of reading to Children
by: Maxine Thompson
This placard graced my late mother’s bedroom wall, and until recently, I didn’t understand what it meant.
After spending a normal vacation with my loved ones in Atlanta and Detroit, I reflected how wonderful it is to enjoy adult children and grandchildren when times are normal. No one in the immediate family was in harm’s way. Everyone is being blessed. One friend is moving into a new house. Instead of coming home for a funeral, or a death watch, I was just home to enjoy the moment. Things are looking up. Lesson learned.
We have to treasure our moments of serenity.
Now I’d like to paraphrase this saying and add, “Reading to children, what a treasure it is.”
I often speak on the issue of the shortage of African American books for children and teenagers. Too many of our teenagers are reading books meant for adults because of the shortage of book. Still too many African American teenagers are dropping out of school.
Last summer, when my three-going on four year old grandchild, Darius, visited from Michigan and came to California, we developed a ritual of reading at night. I’ll never forget his words, “That was a good book.”
Hello World: Babys Third Month Guide
January 25, 2008
Remember how you wished your baby would learn there is more to life than crying, feeding and sleeping? Your wishes are coming true. Your baby’s third month will see her become much more interactive. So much so with some babies, that parents secretly sigh, “Why doesn’t she ever sleep?” Wonder what to expect in the third month?
Good night baby
Worried that your baby is still not sleeping through the night? Most three month-old babies need at least one feed in the middle of the night. You can try to shorten those night- time feedings by making sure baby’s getting enough day long and cutting down the amount baby gets at night.
Co-sleeping is convenient for those nighttime feeds. But research has consistently shown that parents and babies both sleep less. The reason? Your baby’s restlessness might prompt you to wake and feed him when he probably would have drifted off to sleep by himself.
More active and more interactive too
Exhausted after a long day of work? Trust baby’s genuine smiles to cheer you. Your baby now probably recognizes her parents, whom she rewards with smiles, and sometimes even ah- goos and laughter. Talk to your baby whenever you are around her to hone her language skills. She loves it when you imitate her sounds.

Distance Learning Defined
by: Jennifer Pattern
The Definitive Explanation
Distance learning is a term which encompasses all learning that takes place at locations remote from the point of instruction. It is an option for beginning studies or continuation of study off-campus in locations via cable television, internet, satellite classes, videotapes, correspondence courses, or by other means.
Distance learning integrates technology in educational courses whereby students may view and participate in lectures from various locations, or on an individual basis. Various forms of computer-based communication may be used to facilitate class discussions and communication among faculty and students.
Distance learning may take the forms of an instructor-led course delivered via satellite to traditional home study correspondence courses, which is viewed by the hierarchy in education as still the most effective practice which wields the highest course grades, in short, results.

Pregnancy Photography - Tips For The Belly!
by: Heather Hart
These tips have been provided by Heather Hart of A La Mode Photo who specializes in natural environment, pregnancy, family and pet photography.
1. Find a friend.
Since you are the model, you need someone who has a few hours to dedicate to you and your Belly!
2. Try using a camera with real film and not digital. Go to a camera store and ask for professional black and white film - avoid going to the local market or drugstore for your film - there is a big difference! Ask for 125 speed film - there is less grain. And everyone always looks so much better in black and white - try it, you may like it!
3. Wear natural make-up - a little base and accent your eyes! Since you’re shooting outdoors, keep it light!
4. Choose a place outside! A local park with trees always works nicely. Make sure that the background where you are shooting is also nice. Be careful of trash cans and other items in the background that might detract from your focus.

How to Conduct Personal Background Checks
by: Jasmine Ong
You want to conduct a personal background check on a colleague, maybe even a prospective mate, but you’re not quite sure how to go about it? Before you spend a fortune on private investigators, you might want to try a little gumshoeing of your own.
The net is teeming with search engines and public records just waiting to be explored. You might have to do a little digging (or perhaps a lot), but there’s a great chance that the information you’re after is just floating around cyberspace at no cost.
Be careful which sites you choose to rely on for help. Some of them will charge you fees for information you can get elsewhere for free. Some will even charge you for wrong or useless information. If you’ve got the time and the patience, it’s often best to do the searching personally. That way you can easily ignore irrelevant data and hone in on pertinent ones.
