Humans and Their Innate Need for Drug Stimulation
January 24, 2007
We know that ancient cultures and Indians and the like across the globe used such mind-altering drugs to alter their states. Still today in the world we have whole cultures enslaved to drugs of some type. Heroine, Opium, Peyote, Marijuana, Cocaine, it almost appears to be a human issue, a need. Most who study such believe that since the addictions affect the frontal lobes that the it also affects the basic drives of that individual which we have all heard of when individuals will steal from friends and family to obtain more drugs. For mankind to progress we will need to maintain flow of thought in all members of the species. We have failed miserably in this regard.
It affects every aspect of our lives and is tough on the business community who needs the employees mind present for productivity. We need to be cognizant of the effect on the flow of thought in each of individual and how that affects the whole. Drugs change the flow of thought and force it into an unnatural state, which affects the flow of every thing else. If we are to decide to allow this, for instance legalize certain drugs such as we have done with caffeine and alcohol then we need to realize that this in fact changes the flow of thought and will change the way mankind interacts.
Unique Baby Names
January 24, 2007
What’s in a name? Er?well, everything, really! Of course your little bundle of joy is the sweetest, most beautiful thing you have ever seen and you want to choose a name that reflects his/her individuality, spirituality, uniqueness and all-round special-ness.
But wait a minute!
Remember that the unique baby name you choose will help define junior’s life - how they are viewed and accepted - for many, many years. What sounds cute and original for a 5-year-old, may not sound so funky for a 15-year-old?and what about a 55-year old?
Time was when only celebrities could get away with unique baby names (Zowie Bowie, Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa, etc), but in the modern world, individuality is more prized than ever before, and increasingly, this starts with our names. Great idea ? but don’t allow a flash of a self-indulgence to condemn your child to a lifetime of problems; it’s reported that a Chinese couple named their child "Saddam Sars" to mark the current world events at the time of the birth! I just hope it means something nice in Mandarin, or Cantonese!
Baby Name Meanings
January 23, 2007
Speaking as a Michael (a Hebrew name, meaning "Who is like God"), I’m really proud of my name. And I think that I ? mostly - live up to the title! Of course, my mother would probably disagree; I think the phrase "little devil" would probably pass her lips if she was describing me during many stages of my childhood.
But then, my mother has her own issues; apparently her name (Kathleen) is a Celtic name meaning "Little Darling". Hmmm, that isn’t the way I used to think about her during those regular occasions when she was punishing me for my "not like God" behaviour?!
And that’s the fun of baby name meanings ? parents make naming decisions based on many, many different reasons, including family traditions, religion, culture, uniqueness and "it just sounds really nice." But ? in the Western world ? we rarely do any real research into the history or real meaning of names. So when the poor/lucky child finally finds out the meaning of his/her "really nice sounding" name, the results can be interesting, ironic, unfortunate or just sometimes hilarious.
How A Home Water Filter Can Reduce Your Child?s Risk Of Learning Disabilities
January 23, 2007
Lead is one of the most dangerous toxins a person can be exposed to in his lifetime. Besides damage from radioactive or nuclear chemicals, significant exposure to lead can cause some of the most severe and even fatal health effects possible.
It seems to be fairly common knowledge that lead is dangerous and that one should avoid exposure to lead whenever possible. Fewer and fewer paints are lead-based and leaded gasoline has been almost entirely phased out. People all over the world are now making concerted efforts to protect themselves from this dangerous metal.
Without doubt, most, if not all, parents would agree that they would like to protect their children from the damaging effects of lead exposure and ingestion. Most parents would also agree that they are doing an adequate job of protecting their children from lead exposure. Still, these same parents (unknowingly) may be exposing and even encouraging their children to take lead into their bodies each and every day.
So, where does this lead come from and why does nobody seem to know about it? The answer to these questions lies in the water we take into our bodies each day. The seemingly safe tap water of most homes in the United States contains lead. When we drink this water untreated, we are consistently allowing lead to poison the inner workings of our bodies.
New Baby ? Relax and Become a Yummy Mummy
January 23, 2007
Lets face it becoming a mum is a bit of a shock at first, to say the least. Sleepless nights and eventful days make it a struggle to get a shower and wash your hair in the morning, never mind applying make up and fiddling with volume brushes and hairdryers. This is why most mums have swapped their kitten heels and sleek hair for the more comfortable trainers and scrunchy.
When entering into motherhood for the first time alot of women feel their identity has disappeared along with their waistline. Don’t fret! All is not lost, by putting aside a little time for yourself you can recapture your sense of self, improve your overall appearance and more importantly your self-esteem.
If you just put some thinking into a new wardrobe and spend about 10 minutes in the morning on yourself you can look and feel a lot better for the day ahead. Most mums find their figure changes after giving birth (apart from those lucky few) so you may have to make some adjustments to the style of clothes you wear.

CPR: Why You Should Know It
January 22, 2007
I never dreamed that I would be in a position to use CPR on someone. But I was wrong.
It was a hot, summer Sunday morning. Some friends and I camped out by the lake the night before. That following Sunday morning we cooked our breakfast and talked about what our plans would be for the day.
We strolled down by a popular swimming hole as we discussed what we would do. The water was low from the drought we were experiencing.
A group of people in their early 20’s were having some early morning fun, swimming and drinking.
Then we noticed a commotion. One of them had dove headfirst into the swimming hole, and because the water was low, he had inadvertently landed on his head on a big rock, lying beneath the low water line.
We saw the partiers drag their friend out in their drunken stupors. We watch in amazement as they ‘argued’ about what to do.
One of the people with us was a dental assistant who had been trained and certified in CPR. She and I ran down to the swimming hole and up to the victim, who was beginning to turn blue from lack of oxygen.
10 Reasons Why You Need to Ditch the Super Mom Syndrome
January 22, 2007
For any of you Moms out there that are doing it all, attempting to gain Super Mom status, let me give you my own personal opinion? It’s not worth it!!!
The pursuit of the Super Mom is an endless search that will be of great cost to you in the end. Here are 10 reasons why you need to put an immediate halt to this pursuit.
# 1-There is no such thing as a Mom who can do everything perfect because as far as I am concerned, perfection comes at a very high price. Seemingly perfect to other people, is often not the way things really are for the perfectionist.
#2-The Super Mom Syndrome is literally killing women. Stress related diseases are on the rise and the demands that women place on themselves today directly contribute to the stress in their life. This stress is often all consuming.
#3-There are far too many roles in our life today. Trying to keep up with the different hats we wear on a daily basis is sometimes impossible. Feeling the need to be perfect in them all is exhausting.
Teach Your Children About the Importance of Water
January 22, 2007
The Flow of Water
Water is essential for life on the Planet, we all know this, water holds a very special place for us for that very reason. Some of us fish, some of us surf, some own a boat, some of like water features near our homes, some own swimming pools, but all of us drink water. Perhaps there are serious supply issues where you are? Perhaps, there are filtration needs, upgrades to sewer plants, perhaps you are in a part of the world with no such facilities?
The Flow of Water is ranked near the top, because without water you have no civilization at all. If one were to travel to every city in this nation you would be able to tell each time when you are coming to where a city might be located simply by the way the terrain is formed and where water might flow. The towns are all built near water. These towns were originally connected by dirt roads, then the railroad connected the towns near water to fill up the steam engines, then they build the highways connecting the cities. But it all started with a river, creek, lake or well. Water determines, where and how we live. Why is the flow of water so important to our lives? Well, we are all familiar with the cycle of water. The evaporation, rain and then the long flow back to the ocean.
From High School Summer Camp to HBO - A Passion for Self Expression Through Films

From High School Summer Camp to HBO - A Passion for Self Expression Through Films
by: Karen Thurm Safran
What inspires a person to follow the revving engine of their internal drive for success? Sixteen year old Christina Frenzel is allowing her passion for self-expression to drive her down a visionary path marked by self-fulfilled accomplishments in filmmaking. With each new venture she continues to define her destiny.
Perhaps it all began with The Never Ending Story. When Christina was 5 years old, she felt a strong connection and began creating countless sequels to the fantasy film in her mind. Later, at age 12, she took over her parents VHS Camera for a class project. Her passion for Chris Carter’s sci-fi series, X-Files, led her to edit together a project on her favorite show by using two household VCR’s to piece poignant clips together.
Christina realized she enjoyed sharing her passion with others through video. Consequently, when a video production class was offered at her middle school in Los Altos, California, she signed up. Although the class did not use sophisticated equipment, Christina learned the basics of composing good shots. It was during her second semester in the class that she found out about the National Children’s Film Festival (now known as Backyard National Children’s Film Festival).
