Is There Any Real Use For A Fun Quiz?
by: Brian Fong
Q. I don’t like my children spending so much time on the computer and playing video games. Can you help me find or develop a fun quiz to stimulate their thinking?
A. A fun quiz is an excellent way to keep kids occupied especially during the vacation months when learning takes a hiatus.
The key to designing a fun quiz is to keep the subjects relevant to things that interest your children while managing to stretch the limits of their knowledge.
A fun quiz does not have to be so easy that it’s seen as a joke, nor does it have to be boring. Here’s an example:
Let’s say that one of your children enjoys playing with American Girl dolls and her favorite is Kirsten. Now, we all know that Kirsten moved to the United States from Sweden when she was a little girl, right?

Q. What’s the right age to start giving a Bible quiz to my child?
A. The moment that she is able to recognize pictures or symbols. It’s never too soon to start teaching a child about God, and a Bible quiz is an outstanding way to do it.
When most people think of a quiz they think of a series of written questions and multiple choice answers. While that may be the way most quizzes work, there’s no law that says it’s the only way. And even if there is such a law, I, the Great Quizmaster, hereby decree that such law is rescinded!
Even if a child cannot read, they are able to identify pictures, shapes, and colors very early. They also learn to listen, and reason, long before they even learn to talk. With this in mind, you can design a Bible quiz that appeals to any age group. Hey, why focus on just children? Anyone of any age will surely benefit from a Bible quiz.

Trying to Talk to Reach Teens? Maybe a Teen Quiz can Help
by: Brian Fong
Q. I’m a new 8th grade teacher and I don’t have a lot of experience with teens. Could you help me with a teen quiz that will get them thinking?
A. Before I help you with a teen quiz, let me say “good for you”! Many new teachers start out in elementary school and then work their way up to the big leagues. You jumped right into the deep water and I’m proud of you. I love teachers.
So, you want to reach teens and you’re hoping that a teen quiz will get you some results. One of the key concepts to keep in mind is that you don’t want your teens thinking that you’re trying to be one of them, or that you’re invading their age group. Remember, even if you’re in your mid 20’s, you’re “old” to someone who is 13. You need to design a teen quiz that makes them think that you respect their opinions and that you are treating them like an “adult”.

Would Chopin Have Passed A Music Quiz?
by: Brian Fong
Q. My children are very interested in playing music. Is there such a thing as a music quiz for kids?
A. Sure there’s such a thing as a music quiz, and you can find one right inside of your head. Just reach up there, pull it out, and put it down on paper. I’m serious. Who knows where your children’s musical interests lie better than you? Right — no one; so instead of finding some pre-made music quiz, which may or may not challenge them at the levels that you want them to be challenged, go ahead and write your own.
The key to writing you own music quiz is… “G”. OK, just kidding. The key to writing your own music quiz is to come up with questions that will interest and challenge your children. Make the quiz a mixture of technical, factual, and trivial (which is a lot like factual but with subjects that are more fun).
Let’s suppose that your son plays the guitar and your daughter plays the flute. Yes, I know that I’m using stereotypes but it’s just too hard to be politically correct when you’re a simple Quizmaster.

You Don’t Have To Be A Rocket Scientist To Pass An IQ Quiz
by: Brian Fong
Q. Can you really tell anything about someone’s intelligence by having them take an IQ quiz?
A. The answer to this question requires a bit of background information, so let me put my professor hat on and tell you a story.
An IQ quiz measures a person’s Intelligence Quotient (IQ). IQ is calculated using this formula: IQ = 100 MA/CA where MA = Mental Age and CA = Chronological Age.
The IQ test was originated back in 1905 by French psychologist Alfred Binet and his physician research partner Dr. Theodore Simon. These two guys came up with the “Binet Simon Test”. This test’s purpose was to measure the intelligence of retarded children.
The test was based upon several observations:
1. Children grow more mentally capable as they grow older
2. Some children perform at higher grade and age levels than their actual grade and age level. While other children are just the opposite.

Bring Out The Wizard In Kids With A Harry Potter Quiz
by: Brian Fong
Q. I think that Harry Potter provides an excellent learning opportunity for my kids. How can I take advantage of his popularity to teach my children something?
A. You’re on the right track here I think. A Harry Potter quiz would be an outstanding vehicle to teach your children logic. You don’t necessarily have to focus on particular scenes from any of the books or movies, you can use a Harry Potter quiz as a foothold into a wider learning experience.
For example, you could devise a Harry Potter quiz that sets up a scenario where Harry Potter is faced with a problem that needs to be solved. He can use 1/3 magic, 1/3 math, and 1/3 logic to solve the problem.
For example: You could create a Harry Potter quiz question that says:
“Harry Potter is lost in the Forbidden Forrest. He has forgotten his magic wand and his spell book. All he has is his watch, a telescope, and one spell that lets him understand what animals are saying but doesn’t let them understand him. Help Harry Potter get back to Hogwarts.”

Take Advantage of Your Child’s Energy Levels

“Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.”
-Josh Billings
If parents want to be able to make best use of time with their children, then it is crucial for a parent to start becoming alert to the state that their children are in. Tired? Satisfied? Bored? His shoe hurts him? She has a stomachache from the spaghetti? And so on….This applies particularly during the time that children are playing with toys. They want to be happy. And you want them to be happy too..
Here’s one way of looking at it: it’s a bit like dealing with a baby. Your baby cries. So you figure, usually and probably it’s one of four things. One, the baby is hungry. Two, the baby needs a diaper change.Three, the baby is tired. Or four, the baby wants to be held. You would probably test each of these out to see if the baby will stop crying. What’s happening here is a continual process of trying to figure out and be sensitive to the the baby’s needs. Right? So we are dealing with a sensitivity to the child, and a willingness to experiment to find out exactly what the baby needs. Once the thing is done (for example, changed a dirty diaper and put on a clean one) and the baby stops crying, and is now smiling and gurgling, you think: “Bingo! I did the right thing there!”.

Dont Get Mad - Write It Down

“Have you just had an arguement with a friend, mum, dad, brother, sister? Got a bad report from school? or just feeling down in the dumps?”
If you are feeling any of the above then this article can help you
Whenever someone has upset me or im left feeling stressed from anything, i dont let it wind me up and let it make me mad because that just ends up causing more problems in the long run!
Instead i take a piece of pen and paper and write it all down, i pretend i am writing a letter to someone (it dont matter who), i normally try and pick someone i know i can trust and have a good conversation with without getting frustrated at them cos they wont listen.(this person could also be imaginary and not real)

If Real People Ran the Bank - I (a spoof for the heart)

Banish Loans Forever
If ordinary, hard-working, people ran the bank… the very first thing to get rid of would be loans. Absolutely no more loans!
Because once they’re gone, there wouldn’t be any more:
- Due dates
- Interest charges - at any rate of interest
- Late fees or penalties
- Liens
- Applications or rejections
- Credit reports [Old joke - If it weren’t for bad credit, I wouldn’t have any credit at all]
- Playing catch-up month after month
And that means all the related emotional frustrations vanish as well. That would certainly make a lot of people happier. Don’t you think?
Instead of lending money, how about just giving it away? That should make everyone happier still.
Imagine a bank saying, “Help yourself - and never worry about paying it back.” If it doesn’t matter whether money ever gets repaid - there goes accounting and bookkeeping. There goes financial records. There goes debt - along with bad debt. But that’s not a stretch for a bank that re-writes the rules. If you thought familiar bank policies were cast in stone, think again.

Scholarship Search Engine

Scholarship Search Engine
Getting scholarships for college is not the hard part - but actually going out and finding scholarships that fit your requirements is! For years, high school guidance counselors used to suggest possible scholarships to students or give them large booklets filled with hundreds and thousands of college scholarships. Going through these books and actually finding a scholarship became a task all in and of itself. With the popularity of the internet though, finding a scholarship for college through a search engine has never been easier and has even been made simpler through the usage of specific search engines tailored just for college scholarships!
Starting Your Scholarship Search
The first thing to do before using a search engine to find college scholarships is to make a list of all of the skills or qualities about yourself that might appeal to someone handing out a college scholarship. Are you athletic in some sport that some colleges offer? Do you write poetry that would make Walt Whitman smile? Can you name all of the states in America in alphabetical order in under 2 minutes? Chances are, if you have some talent or skill, someone will be offering a scholarship that could put you into college.
